For gamers: create Minecraft NBT files from native 3D CAD models

You or your kids use Minecraft and want to add your own objects and you have access to any CAD models you want to share with them? Then simply load them into 3DViewStation and save them in Minecraft NBT file format. We also support NBT reading, so you can check the exported files before using them further with Minecraft. A nice solution for gaming / gamers.

Preview v2021: automatically add user defined attributes to markups

Depending on import settings, Kisters 3DViewStation also reads attributes from  native CAD files. These attributes were added by the designer, using the CAD system. Using our APIs you can also add custom attributes, which might be read from any leading system, like a PLM or ERP, or from any file. For certain  projects we also developed plugins for 3DViewStation, which allow to add, change or remove attributes. Reading and merging attributes from several files can be helpful in cases, where attributes might come from several systems and a direct integration with each of the system might result in too high efforts.
Similar to CAD, customers want to be able to see the persons name, who created a markup and i.e. the date. That's why we now allow to automatically add attributes to markups. Customers can create presets containing definitions about the attributes. Variables we provide are name, date and time.

Preview v2021: using attributes with BOM and ballooning

3DViewStation has a BOM function, which allows to generate a BOM from a 3D CAD model displayed. This works with any file format such as Catia, NX, Creo, Inventor, Solidworks, JT, STEP and so on. The BOM can be copied to the clipboard or exported as a file. But the BOM is also used in our TechDoc (technical documentation) option. Here you can generate callout IDs and manually or automatically generate the corresponding callouts, often called balloons.

There are a few news with 3DViewStation v2021 :
First, you can now add attributes as columns to your BOM table and you can re-order the coumns. Sometimes it is sufficient to just use the attributes as reference. But now you can also use attributes instead of the traditional callout IDs. Like with classic balloons the IDs can be auto generated and auto positioned. You might not want to use the default circle, but a different shape instead, like the underline in our example.

Preview v2021: PMI selection by feature

Today we find more and more MBD (model based definition) initiatives, replacing traditional 2D drawings with 3D annotated models through all workflows.

How can 3DViewStation help?

First of all 3DViewStation supports PMI (product manufacturing information) reading from many sources, like Catia, NX, Creo, JT, STEP. There are also technical data packages out (TDP), which might be a ZIP consisting of many files. Some of them might be 2D-PDFs whith a JT attached to them. 3DViewStation allows to open both at the same time, the 2D-PDF plus the attached JT.
It also allows to creat own 3D annotations or markups on top of it and save them again i.e. into 3DVS, JT, STEP (AP242), 3D-PDF or 2D-PDF or as images.

Here, one important capability is our search function, which also works for PMIs. Another is the different ways to select objects: we allow you to select a PMI and then highlight the associated feature. What's new in 3DViewStation v2021 is the reverse: we show all PMIs that belong to the selected feature. We call this the reverse selection. Also new is the ability to then isolate the feature plus associated PMIs.

Preview v2021: distance measurement of groups of solids

Kisters 3DViewStation has many measurement functions. One of it calculates the minimum distance between a solid and another object like a face, another calculates the distance between two solids. Computations using solids might be very resource and time consuming. That means, that it is a real challenge to calculate the minimum distance of  a group of thousands of solids against another group also consisting of thousands of solids. This might be the case with plants, buildings, ships or aircrafts. For the new version of 3DViewStation we introduced an extremely fast solids to solids distance calculation. We offer two options to either just calculate the distances in between all selected solids or, as second option, all selected against all unselected.

Here are some results. The example consists of about 20.000 parts. The result "steel" construction against the rest has just taken a fraction of a second to show up:

Preview v2021: draft angle analysis shows undercuts

Mold and die customers are typical users of our draft angle analysis function. It is very fast and allows to investigate a part in order to identify production issues and estimate the complexity of the required tool. This finally has impact on the production price. 3DViewStation now helps identifying undercuts. This is an option which has been designed for performance. As a user you can now highlight the critical areas, which helps you focussing on the important areas.

Preview v2021: create intersection point from 2 disconnected lines

Kisters 3DViewStation has a couple of authoring function in order to create help constructions. There are various options to create coordinate systems, i.e. using circles, planes or lines. 3DViewStation also allows to create wires like a center line of a cylinder or a line between 2 points. The creation of points so far was limited to a circle center and a point, i.e. at a corner of a solid. We now added a method to create a point from two disconnected lines, i.e. close to the rounded corner of a solid.

Preview v2021: 3DViewStation remembers transformation path - an authoring function

Kisters 3DViewStation frequently is used for authoring: users can add annotations or markups, show or hide parts, change colors or transparencys, move and rotate parts. The result will be stored in views, which then show a corresponding preview image.
When moving parts there is an option to create an offset line, which indicates the translation path. The offset line itself in the past was either a direct line between original and final position - independent of the movements the users actually did. Or followed the directions of an active coodinate system or was created automatically, trying to clean up a path that might consist of many distinct steps. With the new version v2021 3DViewStation now can remember the exact path of how it has been moved, maybe in several steps. This might be useful when an author tries to document a complicated scenario and al lthe other methods would fail.

Preview v2021: snapping end and center points

This is a function, which has been requested by 2D customers, but it might be useful for 3D users as well: Since long 3DViewStation has a behaviour, that it starts snapping to characteristic points, when you start moving your mouse cursor close to it. I.e. when you do a point to point measurement, we might snap to an edge, which is close to your cursor. We now allow to limit the snapping to the centerpoint of the closest line or to an endpoint.
