Sacramento, Calif. – September. 15, 2017 – Kisters North America has released version 2017 of its 3DViewStation Desktop, a powerful 3D CAD viewer and universal viewer for engineers and designers. The new version features several updates, including advanced automatic 2D drawing generation.
Known for its modern user-interface, high performance viewing, advanced analysis and integration capabilities into leading systems, 3DViewStation ships with current and mature importers for a broad range of 3D and 2D formats including i.e. Catia, NX, Creo, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Inventor, JT, 3D-PDF, STEP, DWG, DXF, DWF, MS Office and many more.
“Today in most cases new products will be designed in 3D, using 3D CAD software packages. We call it the 3D master concept. In the process chain many cases the legally binding document is still a 2D drawing, containing several section views, dimensions, tolerances, a title block including some metadata data and version information.” said Jim Eardly, Kisters North America Sales Manager. “The challenge we are faced is keep the effort low to create such 2D drawings and still provide the quality demanded. KISTERS 3DViewStation helps automatically deriving 2D drawings from 3D CAD models by rendering them, performing a true hidden line removal, a vectorization and a line reduction before outputting to DXF or SVG. It is possible to combine several views of the same model on a single drawing, to arrange objects to blocks & layers and to use drawing templates with title blocks for the output.”

According to Eardly, the Kisters 3DViewStation is continuously enhanced in response to customer needs and requirements. It is available as Desktop, ActiveX and HTML5 WebViewer product-versions. All product flavors are intended to be used together with a PLM, ERP or other management system product configuration or service and spare part applications, providing all necessary APIs. For cloud, portal and web-solutions, there is an HTML5-based WebViewer solution available, which does not require client installation. All file formats can be used in combination with the intelligent navigation and hyperlinking features to address needs of complex integration scenarios.
