Preview: Selection via linear distance

19-11-19gnikol

We now provide a solution to select and isolate objects which are close to the current selection. This is useful for i.e. piping objects, where a box or sphere would not help to select all objects, which are closer than a certain distance to the selection.

Preview: selection via box trap

12-11-19gnikol

With large asemblies like for aerospace, shipbuilding, plant, offshore or construction (BIM) it is useful to select a group of objects by applying one box, several individual or combined boxes or spheres. We now allow to generate these boxes or spheres, to move and resize them before perfoming the final selection.

Preview: merge objects

30-10-19gnikol

Sometimes it is convenient to merge several objects into a single one, which will reduce the number of nodes. This might simplify the future processing of an assembly, re-selecting a group of objects instead of just the clicked one, less nodes for clash...

Preview: heal data - generate wires

09-05-18gnikol

We typically need to view and measure all data which we get. To be able to measure on data we need wires. But sometimes there are no wires at all or the quality of the wires is so poor, that we cannot do any measurements. To solve this problem 3DViewStation now allows to remove existing wires and to generate them again.

How Kisters helps SMEs (small and medium enterprises) to get mobile access to their CAD data

28-04-18gnikol

SMEs (small and medium enterprises) internally typically work file based, storing all their CAD and project files in folders of their file server. But employees of SMEs are mobile too and we all know the situation of getting an urgent call while travelling, being asked for immediate assistance.

What can we do, if we now would need access to our 3D CAD models, 2D drawings or any project related documentation?

The easy solution is a Web based application that – after logon of course – will provide a “file open”  dialog, which we all know from our Desktop applications. But in the case of working Web based this “file open”  dialog needs to point to a directory of one of OUR servers, allowing to browse through files and sub folders, and open files from there. Of course the server of this Web application will run on our infrastructure – so in the same network, where our files reside.

Advantages of this approach are:

  • It is an easy way to make CAD files and documents accessible from outside: just copy & paste them to  a defined location or in a sub folder of it.
  • There are no download required
  • There will be no files on our mobile device at any time. No risk to lose them, no need to protect our IP, no problem with file sizes, I.e. for large assemblies
  • Very fast mobile access, short loadtimes
  • Always access to the current files, not working with outdated local copies.

Here is an example of a solution and how it could look like on a Smartphone. More details here.

3DViewStation WebViewer allows secure and fast communication of extremly complex 3D CAD Data

22-04-18gnikol

Kisters 3DViewStation WebViewer provides several options to secure the access of §D CAD data as much as possible: alienate geometries, remove internal parts, prevent from sectioning, load assemblies dynamically and i.e. do not even load certain objects, backend communication between server components, never having any 3D geometries on the client device...

New: calculation of neutral axis

19-01-18gnikol

Available now:  the calculation of the neutral axis  has been added to the "Advanced Analysis" option of the 3DViewStation verfügbar. This allows a simple calculation of circle cylindric tube and pipe segments. Our implementation requires BREP data consisting of circle objects. Options allow to exclude potential distortions, like junctions or branches, or to show additional dimensions and internal help geometries.

Fix for issues, cuased by Microsoft update 1709

19-01-18gnikol

Today we uploaded a new installation package, which resolves issues, caused by Microsoft update 1709. Due to this Microsoft update many applications, including 3DViewStation Desktop, became extremly slow during start of the application and during first click on any ribbon menu item. Fom now on you can enjoy our know speed again.

Do PLM-systems offer sufficient 3D visualization solutions?

02-09-14gnikol

We observe a high variety of visualization concepts provided by PLM-systems. Some focus on neutralizing 3D-CAD data to i.e. JT or 3D-PDF, some integrate high end DMU tools, some could work with any visualization solution, means, there is no integration at all.But is there an ideal solution, are there any minimum requirements which should be fulfilled? We at Kisters believe, that only the customer can decide on that. The customer knows his processes and he will i.e. define a requirement for native CAD viewing in cases of many ad hoc processes or frequent on site meetings for design reviews with latest data – the PLM-system should not limit him in his decision. In case of using neutralized light weight process formats JT is an important standard, but it’s just one among several other file formats. Many customers today prefer 3D-PDF as most of the users with basic requirements are familiar with Adobe Reader. So we sometimes find a discussion JT vs 3D-PDF and often it turns out to become a tool question. Is there a tool like TC-Vis for 3D-PDF or native 3D-CAD data?Yes, there is. Kisters 3DViewStation is a fast viewing solution for all 3D native + neutral CAD incl. JT and 3D-PDF, for really large assemblies, is designed for PLM-integration, has the ability to also load virtual product structures via API, to create hyperlinks between geometries and associated documents or data. The many Freebees available typically provide just basic functionality, a Kisters 3DViewStation integration would enable most users of a PLM-process-chain to do their job, fast & intuitive in a managed environment. For engineering users it might be the analysis tool, for sales users the tool to help on quotations, for purchase users the tool to convert into JT or 3D-PDF to send lightweight 3D-CAD data to suppliers, for project engineers the first choice to prepare design review meetings, for others the authoring tool for the shopfloor.
Kisters 3DViewStation, available as Desktop, ActiveX and WebViewer version, is developed close to customers & integrators requirements. Get an idea about 3DViewStation here: https://viewer.kisters.de/en/kisters-products/3dviewstation-desktop.html.

KnowHow: PMI Annotation to Feature assoziation (MBD)

12-08-14gnikol

PMIs (Product Manufacturing Information) are used to annotate 3D CAD models, trying to replace 2D drawings. Frequently the terms MBD (Model Based Definition), MBE (Model Based Enterprise = a company that adopted MBD), GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) or FT&A (Functional Tolerancing & Annotation) are used. Kisters 3DViewStation supports PMIs for most fileformats including Catia, NX, ProE / Creo, JT… 3D annotations are displayed, predefined views (see also here) are shown using the defined name, camera position and visibility settings per object. Also, Kisters 3DViewStation highlights the assoziated feature if a PMI annotation has been clicked.

Video: 3D CAD Viewer on iPad: Kisters 3DViewStation WebViewer

04-02-14gnikol

The Kisters 3DViewStation WebViewer Version is a web-browser based 3D CAD Viewer for i.e. iOS.As iOS does not support WebGL we will do the demo using our server-side rendering feature. For other operating systems like Android or Windows you might choose for client-side rendering.Advantages of server-side rendering:

  • runs on all systems with HTML5-based Web-browser
  • data are protected as no geometries will be transmitted to the client
  • better performance than client-side rendering, especially with low bandwidth and/or large assemblies

SAP-Integration via ECTR, i.e. supporting virtual products

30-01-14gnikol

Find a demo showing the InPlace integration of Kisters 3DViewStation into SAP (via ECTR of DSC Software AG), how to work with it and some advantages of following the virtual product concept: support for different views on structures (like “as designed”, “as maintained”..), dynamically loading selections / subsets of a structure, replacing parts or selections by different versions, supporting configurable products in an efficient way.

3D CAD Viewer on Tablet-PCs?

18-01-14gnikol

We notice an increasing choice of mobile devices. We all use notebooks, smartphones and tablets on a daily basis. That’s all proven for typically used apps like email, messenger, browser, games and specialized services like maps and hotels. But what about 3D CAD viewing? Does it make sense to run them on a smartphone? Is it possible at all? Let’s look at some concepts.

The smallest devices are smartphones. If we are travelling we typically have a rather low bandwidth available compared to WiFi and a small screen. Would we like to travel with some native CAD data on our phone? We do not believe in that. We think that we need a concept to get an as fast as possible access to data, which are stored somewhere in the cloud, maybe a private one, maybe a PLM-based respository. To optimize use experience we would translate native CAD data into light weight formats in advance. We would give the user a client, which displays a rendition, generated on a server in realtime. We would let the user select parts, rotate, zoom and pan with his fingers and have a server executing all commands. Because we do not want to let our users wait, until some 3D data will be received on his device.

On the larger 8 or 10 inch tablets  we have the choice between several operating systems and native apps and browser based clients. The browser based will work on all operating systems, if you have a server render the geometries and will still work on many systems as long as there is WebGL available (so not iOS, but the rest). Don’t let us forget tablet PCs running Windows. We find them more and more and they have one advantage: you might run RT apps or native Windows applications. This allows to run full blown 3D CAD viewers including native CAD reading support and the complete set of i.e. analsysis, markup and text annotation functions. They are not redeveloped and cut down to a quite limited functional set.

With our 3DViewStation product family we at Kisters adress many mobile usage scenarios: run our Kisters 3DViewStation WebViewer clients on all devices and operating systems. Take the advantage of server side rendering for mobile users, for limited bandwith lines and for HTML5 based zero-install clients. Your data will be protected at the same time, as there won’t be any 3D data on your client at any time. Use our Kisters 3DViewStation Desktop or ActiveX products on Windows tablet PCs and work on light-weight or native CAD files. Performance will be incredibly good: on a i5 notebook we load a 5GB Catia V5 assembly in just 1 second as 3DVS-file, on a litte 8 inch Dell with Atom CPU it just takes 3 seconds. Not too bad. And functionality is exactly the same as on your Desktop.

Here are a few impressions.

Kisters 3DViewStation V2014.0 preview

16-01-14gnikol

Kisters 3DViewStation V2014.0 release is expected in the next weeks. Enhancements include NX 9 support, layer support, export of modified assemblies into several fileformats and the customization of the ribbons of the UI.

load large assemblies

13-01-14gnikol

We did a video that shows, how to load large assemblies using the Kisters 3DViewStation, if the computer has low RAM. It’s about avoiding the system to swap. In this case it might be useful not to load the complete assembly at once, but to translate sub-assemblies into the 3DVS-fileformat and load the 3DVS-files afterwards.

Offset lines

10-12-13gnikol

A new build of the Kisters 3DViewStation is ready for download. You can now create offset lines, when moving parts or sub-assemblies. Great for your tech-pubs.

DMU: load 100.000 parts aircraft in 10 sec

01-12-13gnikol

Complex products like aircrafts consist of 100.000+ parts. and are offered with many options. Too manage all configurations and geometries there are PLM systems required, which allow to filter from a so called 150% model down to the final end-customer configuration. In such environments we will not find any traditional assembly files any more, as all product structure and positioning information are now metadata of the PLM-system.
As we recently run into such a customer project, we showed, that our Kisters 3DViewStation is able to load such huge dynamically filtered, fully detailed 100.000 part aircrafts in just 10 seconds on a notebook computer with a little NVidia graphics adapter and just 8 GB RAM. Focus was to do graphical selections, which are handed over to the CAD-system for starting an editing session. But we also did sections through the entire device, did measurements and exploded views. It all performed well.

Video – Customizing the UI

25-11-13gnikol

This video shows several possibilities to customize the UI of the Kisters 3DViewStation, i.e. to maximize size of the graphics area by minimizing other windows. Hide the ribbons, let windows disappear automatically, have windows float, add & remove controls to the quick access toolbar, arrange own layout of the windows. Here is the english version of the video.

Integration 3DViewStation in Aras Innovator

04-11-13gnikol

We started the integration of the Kisters 3DViewStation into Aras Innovator. It is intended to have it certified and it will then be the DMU-solution for Aras innovator. We did a series of short videos showing several scenarios:

  • native CAD viewing vs. 3DVS-fileformat viewing
  • creating true multiCAD DMUs – mixing assemblies coming from various sources without upfront translation
  • comparing revisions of assemblies
  • using color coding to graphically show the release status of all parts of an assembly
  • virtual product handling: support of assemblies where the BOM and position information is defined in Aras Innovator only – no CAD assembly file exists.

Kisters 3DViewStation V11 Release

06-02-12gnikol

We are proud to announce the first 3DViewStation V11 release, built on a new graphics kernel. Kisters 3DViewStation V11 is available as very performant 64-bit and 32-bit application. It ships with the most recent and reliable importers, enjoys user with it’s new and modern Office 2010 like UI.
First users, who had a look on the new product were excited about the easy usage of the app. Still, the core focus of the new release was to provide a 64-bit system with maximum performance. The result is, that the 3DViewStation is preconfigured for top speed in native reading mode. For whom this might not be enough, we allow you to store the CAD-data in our own fileformat  which will be your turbo-booster for the next load: assemblies beeing i.e. 5GB Catia V5 native will then load in 10 seconds on a notebook.
Courious to try? Downloads are available here.

Markup with 3DViewStation V10 + AdobeReader

18-01-12gnikol
